Come to the Party

YEARS K-3

This program is designed to support the HSIE K-6 Syllabus for Stage One students. It focuses on the 'Change and Continuity', and 'Overview of Cultures' outcomes. Students will interact with stories and participate in party activities focusing on three different periods in time, (the present, Victorian and the 1960's). Bygone craft activities and traditional and contemporary games will be used to link the past and the present and show continuity and change by encouraging interaction, empathy and participation from students. The program will be conducted at the Environmental Education Centre and Observatory Park. The aim of the program is

  • To develop an understanding of past customs/celebrations through craft activities and games
  • To develop knowledge and understanding about customs from different times (Victorian and 1960's)
  • To understand and appreciate the differences and similarities which exist between the lifestyles of children in the past and those of today.
  • To develop positive attitudes towards cultures and customs as part of the wider social environment.
  • To develop an appreciation of the contribution of the past to the present, especially culture, customs and celebrations.
