This program supports student outcomes in 5A3, Issues relating to human elements of environments, with a focus on urban growth and decline. The overriding theme for the program is one of identifying the stakeholders within the varying landuse zones along the foreshore and assessing the impact of planning policies being implemented as a consequence of urban growth and decline. This process relies heavily on the Dept. of Planning, Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Regional Action Plan, Sharing Sydney Harbour. Through this study students will gain a greater understanding of the need for ecologically sustainable development along this vital interface between the built and natural environments of Sydney Harbour. Students are introduced to the study area through a series of pre-visit tasks aimed at giving students an insight into the transformation, over time, of the foreshore zones between Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. Through the completion of these tasks before the fieldwork visit, students will gain an understanding of the spatial and ecological dimensions of a range of issues related to managing a natural asset against the backdrop of a thriving metropolis.
